Mayor Marty Walsh Hits The Ice at Frozen Fenway

Now that he has taken care of making all of those difficult administration choices to build his team, Mayor Marty Walsh turned his attention to the other perks that come with being the city’s top elected official: special appearances.

Early Friday morning, Walsh hit the ice at Frozen Fenway, where a rink is set up inside Fenway Park to host the Hockey East tournaments, to drop the puck for the annual game between the Boston Police and Fire Departments. They rolled out the red carpet for the new mayor, and even gave him a customized hockey jersey with the “B Strong” logo in the center.

The rivalry between first responders ended in a win for the Boston Police after they cleaned up during the special matchup with an 11-6 victory. Players on each team were from the Boston Police Emerald Society and the Boston Fire Department’s Hockey Club.

According to Picture Boston, who snapped photos of last year’s matchup, “both teams have former high school, college and drafted pros on the ranks.” It was the second year in a row that the police officers swept the firefighters.
