Bruins to Get New Practice Space As Part of Boston Landing Development

The Boston Bruins will soon have a new space to practice their skills.

Representatives for the Bruins announced on Tuesday that the Bruins signed a letter of intent for a long-term lease with Boston Landing to build a designated hockey rink where the team can go to prepare for games.

“I am thrilled that we have found the Bruins a new practice home within the Boston city limits,” said Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs in a statement.  “Our goal is to set the industry standard in everything that we do, and we are confident that our new practice facility will do just that.”

Jacobs said more details about the practice rink would become available as they enter the design phase of the project.

Besides the rink itself, the facility will include a large locker room and office space. According to a press release, construction is slated to begin the spring of 2015, and the project should be completed by the fall the following year.

Currently, the Bruins practice at the Ristuccia Memorial Arena in Wilmington.

The rink will be part of the new Boston Landing project, which is a mixed-use development being constructed in the Allston and Brighton area of the city. The project will serve as the headquarters for New Balance, and will include a new MBTA Commuter Rail station on the Framingham and Worcester line, shuttle buses to and from Harvard and Kenmore Squares, MBTA buses that go into the city, and Hubway bike stands and designated bike lanes into Boston. Office space and a hotel are also part of the project.
