Watch Governor-Elect Charlie Baker’s Inauguration Ceremony
He met with former Governor Deval Patrick to exchange gifts, held his pre-inauguration interfaith ceremony with community members, and settled into his new digs on Beacon Hill.
And now, Republican Charlie Baker will officially take the oath of office to become the 72nd Governor of Massachusetts.
During a day packed with big-name politicians—New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney are in town—and a busy schedule, Baker, who beat out Democratic contender Attorney General Martha Coakley in the November election, will kick off his first day as the leader of the Commonwealth with a ceremony at the State House.
After being sworn in by Sen. Stanley Rosenberg, Baker and his running-mate, Karyn Polito, will descend the Grand Staircase, lined with red carpet, to meet constituents and other elected officials outside on Beacon Hill.
At the end of the day, Baker will celebrate his victory and new role as governor during an event at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, called “Let’s Be Great Massachusetts.”
On Friday, Baker will shed the formal introductions for a rousing get-together with supporters, and performance by the Dropkick Murphys. That portion of the inaugural celebrations will take place at The Strand Theater in Uphams Corner, according to the Dorchester Reporter.
