Report: David Ortiz Retiring After Next Season
Red Sox slugger, postseason hero, salsa entrepreneur, straw soloist, unwitting Boston 2024 board member, unofficial Fallout 4 character, and destroyer of dugout phones David Ortiz will retire after the 2016 season, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday afternoon.

Ortiz, who turns 40 on Wednesday, helped bring three World Series titles to Boston in 2004, 2007, and 2013. The designated hitter has one year and $16 million remaining on his contract, providing him one last chance to ride into the October sunset a champion.
And while reaching the 500 home-run mark as Ortiz did last season (one of the campaign’s few bright spots) is no small feat, Big Papi won’t necessarily be a shoo-in for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Given his postseason heroics and punishing presence at the plate, that’s just ridiculous.
