Boston University Beat Lehigh on a Funky Little Buzzer-Beater
Though Boston University is a hockey school, and emphatically so. But every once in a while, a little magic happens on the hardwood.
The 12-11 Terriers, ranked fifth in the Patriot League, faced the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks at home on Sunday. With the scored tied at 73-73, senior John Papale, who had moved to second place all-time at BU in career 3-pointers (257) earlier in the game, tossed up a desperation shot for the win.
“Obviously, it was kind of a broken play,” Papale said postgame. “I was going to take one or two dribbles and the kid whacked it out of my hands. I just kind of picked it up and threw it up, and it went in.”
The Terriers will hope to keep the momentum rolling with a Wednesday contest on the road against Navy. Boston University last reached the NCAA tournament in 2011; Kansas bounced BU 72-53, snapping an 11-game winning streak.
