BC Student Eats 90 Habanero Peppers to Win Chili Pepper Eating Contest

Her dad came in second.

A Boston College student came in first place at El Pelon Taqueria’s annual Chili Pepper Eating Contest by downing a total of 90 habanero peppers.

According to Boston.com, Alison Hiatt and her dad Jeff were determined not be the first ones eliminated, but their love of spicy foods ended up propelling them to the top of the competition. After becoming the last two people standing, the BC student won the top prize when her father decided not to continue.

“It wasn’t too bad in the moment,” she told Boston.com. “I mean it was definitely hard—but now my stomach is definitely paying for it.”

Last night was an EPIC battle. A huge congrats to our 2016 Winner of the El Pelon Chile Pepper Eating contest. Consuming 90 habaneros is nothing short of super human. You go girl!

For her trouble, Alison won the grand prize, which included a t-shirt and even more food. She’ll be able to snag a free burrito every day for a year, although we’re not sure how hungry she’ll be after consuming so many habanero peppers.

In total, 22 people participated in the event held at El Pelon Taqueria’s Fenway location on Tuesday night. The contest also raised $5,000, which will go to benefit the food rescue organization Lovin Spoonful.
