Wegmans Is One Step Closer to Arriving in Medford

It's the Rochester, New York, chain's seventh Bay State store.

Wegmans has signed a 25-year lease for a location in Medford, bringing the Rochester, New York, grocery chain’s Bay State tally to seven.

Wegmans will be an anchor tenant at Medford’s struggling Meadow Glen Mall along the Mystic Valley Parkway, after Boston-based New England Development cleared space inside the mall earlier this year, Banker & Tradesman reports. The nearby Marshall’s and Kohl’s will remain onboard.

Outgoing Medford Mayor Michael J. Glynn mentioned in his final State of the City address last November that the beloved grocery store chain had been permitted for the 60,000-square-foot space. At the time, a spokesperson for Wegmans confirmed that negotiations were underway, but declined to share any other details.

Wegmans currently operates stores in Northborough (it’s first in Mass., opened in 2011), Burlington, Chestnut Hill, and Westwood, with two more planned for the Natick Mall and Landmark Center in the Fenway neighborhood in 2017 and 2019-20, respectively.
