Brianna Wu Will Make Run for Congress Official Tomorrow
She’s making it official tomorrow: Brianna Wu is running for Congress, and she hopes to unseat Stephen Lynch, who she just called ‘everything I think is wrong with the Democratic Party.’
The announcement is slated to happen on Friday, the same day as the inauguration of Donald Trump. The 39-year-old video game developer has said the election, in part, spurred her to run for office and has argued that her experience going toe-to-toe with the GamerGate troll army has prepared her to stand up to the soon-to-be president. And indeed, a new campaign video she published yesterday includes clips from that infamous tape of Donald Trump on the Access Hollywood bus and other clips from TV news. “I’m truly terrified of what’s going to happen to women’s rights under this president,” she intones as its narrator (the video also includes a clip of her riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle).
Wu announced her intention to run last month.
Lynch, whose critics once dissed him from an airplane soaring around Boston, has had to defend in his blue state his pro-life proclivities and the fact that he didn’t vote for Obamacare, and Wu says she plans to confront him on those aspects of his political career.
“To me, Congressman Lynch represents everything I think is wrong with the Democratic Party,” she says in an interview with the Globe.
Lynch has represented his district, which includes parts of Boston and the South Shore, since 2001.
