Robert Kraft: Donald Trump’s Policies ‘Are Going to Be Great’ for America

While it’s up for debate whether or not the Patriots have a Trump problem, the Patriots owner has no problem whatsoever with Trump.
In an interview with the New York Times this week, Robert Kraft lavished praise on the President-Elect, whom he considers a dear friend. The two first met when Trump invited Kraft to play at his golf course in West Palm Beach, and as recently as November, the Brookline native was spotted inside Trump’s eponymous Manhattan tower.
“Loyalty is important to me, and he has been a wonderful friend,” Kraft said. “I think one of the great problems in the country today is the working poor, the middle class, that there hasn’t been growth in income on an equal basis, and I really think the policies he’s going to bring to bear are going to be great for the economic side of America.”
Though the Times describes Kraft as “among the most loyal donors to Democratic candidates,” he has made political donations toward both sides of the aisle. He contributed $25,000 to both Barack Obama and John McCain in 2008. He donated $57,900 to Obama in 2012, then gave $1,000 to Marco Rubio’s Senate campaign in 2014. The same year, he gave Ed Markey $3,600. (Not to mention donations to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. Lindsay Graham.)
Trump was a vocal defender of Tom Brady throughout the entire Deflategate saga, frequently tweeting messages of support and urging the Patriots quarterback to sue the NFL for defamation.

Prior to Election Day, Brady said it “would be great” if Trump were elected after one of his signature, red “Make America Great Again” hats was spotted in his locker. In an interview with WEEI, Brady claimed Trump gave Kraft the hat to pass along to him, and it “found its way” into his locker.
