Watch Oprah Winfrey Give the Commencement Speech at Smith

American icon Oprah Winfrey spoke to graduates at Smith College’s 2017 commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 21.
Students at the all-women’s school heard wisdom and encouragement from Winfrey, whose decades-long career in media has made her among the world’s best known figures in entertainment and a prominent advocate for women’s empowerment. In the speech, which was a video of which was published by MassLive, she tells students to use their talents to change the world for the better.
“[U]nderstanding that there is an alignment between who you are and what you do is the real, true empowerment,” she says in the speech, according to a description on Smith’s website. She adds, “Shift the paradigm to service and the rewards will come.”
