The MBTA’s Fare Machines Were Under the Weather Today

Update: The fare machines are working again.

Earlier: Something is up with the MBTA’s fare machines today, and they will not be accepting credit or debit card transactions until further notice, the T announced at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
It wasn’t clear what caused the issue, or when the system might be fixed. “Fare Machine Maintenance is working on the issue,” the T wrote on Twitter Thursday morning. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to fix this as quickly as possible,” the T also said.
For whatever reason, they remained out of service credit card-wise as of 10 a.m.
Maybe you’ve got a case of the sniffles right now, as cold season rolls into Boston with a vengeance. Looks like the T’s payment systems do to.
#MBTA Fare Vending Machines are currently not accepting credit or debit cards. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to fix this as quickly as possible.
