Limited Time Only: Buy Curt Schilling’s Shop Vacuum

The cash-poor former Red Sox pitcher is selling off his stuff.

If schadenfreude and garage clutter are your thing, then do we have an event for you: Curt Schilling’s estate sale this Saturday.

The embattled former video game entrepreneur is still being sued by Rhode Island’s economic development agency over the collapse of his video game company, 38 Studios, for which the state put up $75 million. Schilling, understandably, is seeking ways to raise money, including, but not limited to the sale of a pile of books about melanoma.

“What a wonderful opportunity, and we are truly pleased to bring you this exceptional estate sale that will knock your Sox off!” writes the Consignworks Inc. website. They’re obviously using Schilling’s celebrity to advertise the sale—and based on the press it has received, the strategy is working. But this isn’t going to be a big boon for sports memorabilia collectors. The site is mostly filled with home furnishings as well as … literally everything else that’s been filling up his closets for the past forever, including a bajillion copies of his book, some weird party decor, fake plants, a frilly pink Christmas tree thing, and on, and on, and on. The decidedly non-glamorous inventory has inspired some amusement, as with Deadspin’s list of “The 11 Best Things for Sale at Curt Schilling’s Bankruptcy Auction.”

Doesn’t mean there aren’t some diamonds in the rough. For instance, imagine showing up to your next Red Sox game at Fenway in Curt Schilling’s personalized Curt Schilling bathrobe. There’d be free drinks all night for that guy.
