You Can Now Pay Your Boston Parking Meter with an App

Drivers in Boston can now pay their parking meter with merely a few taps on their smartphone.

The city’s long planned effort to launch an app that allows people to pay parking meters through their phone launched on Tuesday in some of the city’s more parking meter dense areas like the Back Bay, Fenway/Kenmore, Downtown, Beacon Hill, the North End, the West End and Charlestown. By the end of the summer the service should be available in South Boston, the South End, Mission Hill, Allston and Brighton.

The hard launch of the app comes after a pilot program for the app was largely successful in the Back Bay.

“More and more of our drivers are taking advantage of ParkBoston and we’re excited to be able to expand into even more neighborhoods by the end of the summer,” said Mayor Marty Walsh in a statement.

The city hopes to have all 8,000 or so metered spaces be accessible through the app that was designed with the help of the company Passport. The service has seen a rise in usage from 3,000 payments per day in June to over 4,000 in mid-July.
