While Patriots quarterback Tom Brady remains coy about formally endorsing his friend Donald Trump, Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz says he “absolutely” supports the Republican presidential frontrunner.
“He says what a lot of people think and don’t say. I like that part of him,” the Texas native told the Globe. “I’m not really into politics, but I’m watching a lot more now. He’s been awesome to me. He says what’s on his mind, which is why he’s accomplished so much in his life. I always found him to be a good-hearted person. He’s a lot of fun, but he’s obviously one of the smartest businessmen in the world, given what he’s been able to accomplish.”
Buchholz and a few other Red Sox players attended an MMA fight in Anaheim in 2008, and Trump, who owned that particular circuit, introduced him to model Lindsey Clubine. Buchholz and Clubine would marry the following year at Trump National Golf Club in Palos Verdes, California. They now have two children.
“His presence is different than anyone else. He speaks and everyone listens,” Buchholz said.
