School Wants Identity of Owen Labrie’s Victim Publicly Released

St Paul’s School has requested a federal court to release the identity of a former student suing the Concord, New Hampshire prep school for her 2014 sexual assault by fellow student Owen Labrie.

The girl’s parents have sued St. Paul’s in U.S. District Court for New Hampshire for failing to protect their daughter, who was 15 years old when Labrie, an upperclassman, assaulted her in May 2014. Labrie was found guilty of misdemeanor sexual assault, illegal use of computer services, and endangering the welfare of a child last August.

In their lawsuit, the parents are listed as John and Jane Doe, while their daughter is listed as J.D., the Globe reports. Lawyers for St. Paul’s say the family is using the media to attack the school’s reputation “from behind a cloak of anonymity.”

“Judicial proceedings are supposed to be open and transparent,” the motion said. Steven J. Kelly, the family’s lawyer, told the Globe he plans to respond through the legal system.
