Harvard, MIT Lead U.S. News’ List of World’s Best Colleges

U.S. News & World Report has released its 2016 list of the world’s best colleges, with Harvard and MIT leading the way.
The Cambridge rivals came in first and second, respectively, in the third edition of the global university ranking. For the first time, American universities occupy the top five spots.
Boston University tied with University of Colorado and the University of North Carolina for 32nd, while Northeastern University tied for 229th. Tufts University placed 156th, and Brandeis University, 280th. Boston College ranked 408th.
Four UMass branches made U.S. News‘ list as well: Amherst at 117th, Worcester at 251st, Boston at 553rd, and Lowell at 959th.
To compile this year’s ranking, U.S. News compared 1,000 schools across 65 countries using 12 factors, including global and regional research reputation, books and publicans, and total number of citations.
Also representing New England in the U.S. News‘ ranking were Yale (14th), Brown (85th), UConn (283rd), University of Vermont (459th), University of New Hampshire (486th), University of Rhode Island (666th), and University of Maine (700th).
