Dunkin’ Donuts Is Discontinuing the Coffee Coolatta

Goodnight, sweet prince.

The Coffee Coolatta is dead; long live the Coffee Coolatta.

Dunkin’ Donuts announced this week it’s discontinuing the popular frozen drink to make room for new items on its menu. Perhaps the hardest hit by this revelation will be Mark Wahlberg’s character in Patriots Day, who—lest anyone forget—utters the line, “Ah, Coffee Coolatta. Those ah good.”

At the company’s annual media day Tuesday, senior vice president Chris Fuqua said the Coffee Coolatta “isn’t good enough.” Paul Racicot, Dunkin’s director of culinary innovation, expressed a need to, in a terrifying turn of phrase, “contemporize our frozen platform.”

Replacing the Coffee Coolatta will be the “Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee,” as well as the “Dunkin’ Energy Punch,” spawned from the Canton-based coffee chain’s partnership with Monster Energy. Dunkin’ will also test in Maine and Florida a new coconut cream pie iced coffee, a pink lemonade Coolatta, fruited mango pineapple tea, blackberry tea, and a caramel shaved ice espresso.

Dunkin’ Donuts announced earlier this month that it plans to phase out all artificial colorings from its U.S. menus by 2018, including those found in the humble Coolatta.
