Shady Hill School is a progressive and diverse co-educational day school for grades Pre-K (Beginners) through Grade VIII. Focusing on joyful active learning informed by multiple perspectives, Shady Hill is a community that fosters intellectual curiosity—a place where we encourage students to create what they wish existed while teaching them to recognize and grapple with the complexities of the world in which we live. Our academic curriculum emphasizes depth over breadth, and employs a unique year-long teaching approach called Central Subject. Our students are curious and engaged—they are bright and enthusiastic, and they genuinely enjoy exploration and discovery. Most of all, Shady Hill students are connected to their learning. Our campus is situated on eleven acres just off the banks of the Charles River in Cambridge which features eighteen child-scaled buildings that provide a home for each grade, with additional facilities for library, science, makerspace, math, arts, and physical education. Our physical layout helps create a strong sense of community that underpins our curriculum.
