Living Large
Saving Grace
Along historical Main Street in Lancaster, just a few miles west of I-495, drivers often slow to peer over a low Goshen stone wall and admire the yellow house with green shutters. Among the modest Victorian farmhouses lining the country road, this stately 4,692-square-foot Federal-period mansion has an easy charm clearly rooted in another time. It took a well-known antiques dealer three decades to return the home to its original splendor, and now every space, from the entry hall to the front parlor to the upstairs bedrooms, boasts refined vintage details, including painted wide-board flooring and exquisite wallpaper. What’s more, the 3.57-acre plot, beautifully designed by the landscape architect Jonathan Keep, boasts several specimen trees collected by the current owner. The updated kitchen, of course, is a welcome modern touch.
