A corner penthouse unit is every city slicker’s dream, and this one’s in the right place (behind Tufts Medical Center) with the right amenities (the full-service building includes valet parking for the unit’s two personal spots). It could, however, use a few cosmetic modifications. First, the goodies: The apartment features south and east floor-to-ceiling windows offering full harbor views, as well as an impressive spiral staircase flanked by two-story windows and topped with a crystal chandelier. But here’s what we’d change:
That iridescent kitchen backsplash clashes with the high-gloss tiger-maple cabinetry. (1) Ann Sacks travertine field tile would complement rather than compete. Outdated kitchen pendant lights make us sad; they could easily be swapped with (2) geometric glass Roll & Hill pendants. And while shiny black stone floors may be hypoallergenic and easy to clean, we’d prefer something warmer, like (3) prefinished white oak from Carlisle Wide Plank Floors.
Then we’d finish off the space with an eclectic mix of modern accents: a (4) leather lounge chair from Room & Board and a (5) whimsical steel wire coffee table from Roche Bobois; and vintage touches—a (6) colorful Moroccan Beni Ourain rug from Landry & Arcari.
