The Hotel Alexandra Is On the Market in Boston

After failing to develop the property since taking ownership in 2008, the Boston branch of the Church of Scientology has finally listed the South End’s Hotel Alexandra building for sale, according to The Boston Globe.
Located at the corner of Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue, the five-story Gothic structure was built in 1875 as a residential hotel featuring 50 rooms and 2,000 square-foot flats. Since then, after years of neglect, failed businesses, a series of fires, and other misfortunes, it remains vacant and boarded up.
The news of the offering was welcomed by city officials and South End residents, who have watched the building fall into disrepair over the years. The churched had hoped to expand in Boston and to make the property its headquarters, but with plans stalled, but new ownership long overdue.
Though it is in poor condition, many developers have showed interest in bidding on the Alexandra. Church spokesman Kevin Hall told the Globe that they’re looking to sell the property while the real estate market is still strong.
