Up and Away
Los Angeles–based artist Jim Shaw examines the concepts of fallibility and fallen heroes in a showstopping exhibit at Mass MoCA where more than 100 of his multimedia works are on display. Among those featured is Not Since Superman Died, a new large-scale painting and video installation dedicated to the superhero at his most vulnerable moments.

Shock and Awe
Exploring themes of life and death through installations, paintings, and prints, Damien Hirst has become one of the most successful British artists of his generation. A selection of Hirst’s works, including some of his iconic “spot” paintings, will be on display at DTR Modern Galleries beginning in February.

Hot Line
Brenda van der Beek interprets the human mind as a vast, complex architectural construct of moods and thoughts, which she charts through blueprint- inspired paintings and mixed-media drawings. In February, the North Andover–based artist shares 20 of her works at Galatea Fine Art.

“Corita Kent and the Language of Pop”

Crown Jewels
Known for his unique carving techniques and use of light, Chinese jewelry designer Wallace Chan draws inspiration from butterflies, other insects, and mythological creatures to create wearable works of art.
