Cough Up $90 Million and This Brookline Estate Could Be Yours
There are some pretty pricey properties for sale in Boston right now. An outrageous housing market aside, places like this $30 million property on Newbury Street seem to exist on a different level.
The multi-unit Newbury Street address was one of the most expensive properties listed publicly in the Greater Boston area until today. Enter Woodland Manor, a Brookline estate that just hit the market. It dramatically dwarfs the Newbury Street listing with an asking price of $90 million. Yes, $90 million. That makes it $60 million more than Boston’s highest-priced building. Homes on the Cape and the Islands still can’t compare, with this Chatham mansion asking a mere $25 million.
What’s so great about it? For one, the jaw-dropping mansion is situated on about 14 acres of rolling woodlands. “This emerald island rises between the surrounding Brookline Country Club and Putterham Meadows Golf Course,” reads its listing. “Turf walkways and pathways meander through this extraordinary landscape and the winding driveway provides a multi-step reveal of this unique estate and its residence.”
The estate is owned by Paul and Phyllis Fireman. Paul Fireman is the billionaire who built up the Reebok empire in the 1980s, and has been tapped as one of the world’s richest people by Forbes. Today, he owns a country club that overlooks the Statue of Liberty—members pay $500,000 to join. He also operates the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation and serves as chairman of Fireman Capital Partners.
His mansion has eight bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and five partial bathrooms. At a whopping 26,623 square feet, the place also boasts a 5,000-square-foot exterior granite terrace and a four-car garage. Each individual Indiana limestone that makes up the manor was hand-drawn. The decorative cornices, keystones, balconies, chimneys, and carvings were custom-made for the home.
