Oceanfront homes are prime real estate no matter how hot (or cold) the market is, making this seaside three-bedroom in Hough’s Neck a surprisingly good deal. Its views of the Harbor Islands command just $277 per square foot in Greater Boston’s ultra-competitive market. That’s about five times cheaper than oceanfront condos in the Seaport.

The home is, of course, nothing like a Seaport condo. It needs quite a bit of work before it becomes a posh waterfront pad. For starters, the kitchen requires a complete overhaul. New countertops and cabinets would serve it well. There’s also a gaping hole where the oven used to be, as well as a missing ceiling light fixture. Both full bathrooms need work too, including new tiling, tubs, vanities, and mirrors.

Luckily, the place has an open floor plan on the first level, so walls won’t have to be knocked down to create an airy living and dining area. This floor is anchored by a fireplace in the living space, and boasts several huge windows that look out to the ocean. Upstairs, a sizable master bedroom comes with a private deck that also faces the sea.

While the house itself stretches to 1,442 square feet, it sits on a relatively tiny lot. The yard is indeed small, yet it still offers a storage shed and a back porch with plenty of room for seating. But wide-open spaces are mere inches away, as the ocean is just across the street.
