Bostonians in search of a restful country escape have latched on to Getaway, a Harvard-born startup that allows city dwellers to recharge in tiny houses in the woods. But for a more permanent solution to having a place to flee to, there’s this blue cottage in New Hampshire.
The rustic camp for sale in the woods needs some work, but it’s pretty darn affordable at $146 per square foot. The four-bedroom abode was built in 1963, and still flaunts some of that midcentury flair (see also: the A-frame roof, linoleum floors, and wood paneling). And yet, it’s the perfect modern getaway with its sizable living room, wood stove, and spacious yard.
Much of the interior could use a refresh, however. Brighten up the living spaces, outfit them with all-new furniture, and throw in a few house plants, and you’ve got yourself a cozy retreat. It might even reach #cabinporn status after a few improvements. As an added bonus, the Granite State hideaway is also a short walk from Long Pond, a 100-acre spring-fed lake that’s excellent for birdwatching and kayaking.
