Flower Power: Marimekko’s ‘Unikko’ Print Turns 50
Unikko 50th-Anniversary Collection
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, from its enormous windows facing Brattle Street, the revolutionary home-goods shop Design Research was among the first American purveyors to debut Marimekko’s bright, modern prints. The grooviest of all such patterns was an oversize flower motif from 1964 known as “Unikko,” now considered the Finnish company’s most recognizable design. To celebrate the iconic poppy’s 50th anniversary (and its Cambridge link), we plucked products that pack a similar psychedelic, garden-grown punch.
