Tasty Burger Coming to Central Square
The burger boom in Greater Boston is continuing to sizzle.
According to the owners of Tasty Burger, a new restaurant will be cropping up in Cambridge’s Central Square, but details about the exact location are still under wraps.
The opening of another Tasty Burger restaurant will make it the fourth one in the area. Tasty Burger’s other locations are in Harvard Square, South Boston and the Fenway on Boylston Street. The launch of a Central Square Tasty Burger will be a “home-coming” for owner Dave DuBois, who grew up in Cambridge on Magazine Street. In an e-mail, co-owners of the burger joint said DuBois is “super excited to be back in the neighborhood.”
A lengthy process, including licensing and permitting, still needs to be sorted out, but the company hopes to have the newest Tasty Burger up and running by the fall. Tasty Burger first made its mark in Boston in 2010, when they opened their Boylston Street restaurant. Putting a Tasty Burger in Central will add an element of fast food currently missing from the square. There is not much by way of the fast-casual burger right now. While restaurants like Green Street and Craigie have offer burger meals, Tasty Burger’s quick service will provide a different take on the scene.
The announcement about the addition of a Tasty Burger in Cambridge comes a few months after news leaked that a Shake Shack applied for a special permit in Harvard Square, not far from Tasty Burger’s own location along the same street.
A representative from Shake Shack, the New York-based chain that describes itself as a “a modern day ‘roadside’ burger stand,” said the company has not made a “formal announcement” about opening an additional restaurant in the area, following their debut in Chestnut Hill, however, they are looking to expand after their first spot proved successful.
