Shake Shack on Newbury Street Is Now Open
Shake Shack’s long-anticipated location on Newbury Street opened its doors earlier today, bringing the chain’s signature burgers and new custard creations to Back Bay. It’s the fourth Shake Shack location to open in Massachusetts, following branches in Dedham, which opened Sunday, Harvard Square, and Chestnut Hill.
Before doors opened to the public at 11 a.m., staff from the new Shake Shack came outside to commemorate the occasion with a photo.
From left, Jaeyoon Jung, Woo Ro, and Steve Oh were the first customers at the new Shake Shack location. After seeing the storefront last week, the University of Michigan students made sure to make it one of their last stops before they leave Boston later today. Ro had already visited Shake Shack in New York City, but it was Jung and Oh’s first time at one of Danny Meyer’s modern day “burger stands.”
Shake Shack employees greeted customers with complimentary hot chocolate.
General manager Scott Taylor personally greeted customers and handed out orders.
Before doors opened, kitchen staff and cashiers stretched and chanted “Shack, Shack, Shack!”—to the tune of LMFAO’s “Shots.”
Back Bay resident William McGinty planned his visit to Shake Shack in advance.
Folu Akinkuoto, who works in Beacon Hill, “totally planned” her visit to Shake Shack as well. “The one at Harvard isn’t far, but it’s nice to be able to get to one without public transportation,” she said.
Akinkuoto ordered a signature Shroom Burger, a side of fries, and a “NewBERRY,” one of the new custard creations offered exclusively at Shake Shack’s Back Bay location.
Shake Shack’s location at 234-236 Newbury Street is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more info, visit shakeshack.com.
