Just in time for the 2015 Boston Marathon, Harpoon Brewery has teamed up with Brighton-based footwear manufacturer, New Balance, for their “Nobody Runs Like Boston” campaign. Created with the spirit of running in mind, the two companies collaborated on a small-batch, sessionable saison called Harpoon 1906, named in honor of the year New Balance was founded.

The draft-only offering was brewed with pale, wheat, Munich, and Bonlander malts, and clocks in at a slight 4.9% alcohol by volume. A generous dose of Amarillo hops gives the hazy, highly quenchable brew unmistakeable notes of orange and lemon peel, to go along with clove-like esters courtesy of a Belgian saison yeast strain.

Harpoon 1906 was produced on the brewery’s 10-barrel batch pilot system and is available exclusively at its waterfront beer hall, as well as Solas Irish pub located inside the Lenox Hotel on Boylston Street, starting on April 17. Harpoon first tapped their run of 1906 kegs on Monday and expects to have enough product to last through the weekend.

A dollar from every pint purchased will go to help raise funds for the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund, a cause that Harpoon has donated to over the past 2 years. The Fund was created in honor of Gillian Reny, who is still recovering from injuries sustained at the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings. The fund fuels innovative research in trauma healing and limb reconstruction at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and other programs in the Boston area.
