Earlier today, Bon Appétit announced its highly anticipated annual list of “50 Best New Restaurants,” compiled by restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton and associate restaurant editor Julia Kramer after months of seeking out innovative cuisine around the nation.
This year, four New England spots were recognized—Loyal Nine (Cambridge), The Dining Room at the White Hart Inn (Salisbury, Connecticut), East Ender (Portland, Maine), and Tandem Coffee + Bakery (Portland, Maine).
While last year’s list included four restaurants from the Boston area alone, Loyal Nine is the only local representative for 2015. Chef Marc Sheehan, who’s previously worked for Bondir, Menton, and the prestigious Blue Hills at Stone Barns, opened the restaurant in late March, bringing “East Coast Revival” offerings to East Cambridge.
Bon Appétit praises both the newcomer’s cuisine—including an “outrageously good” bread pudding/chocolate brownie hybrid—and décor, making a note of the custom pottery handmade by co-owner Rebecca Theris.
As in previous years, the magazine will narrow down the list to a “Hot 10,” which will be revealed on August 18.
