UPDATE: Osteria Posto, Opening This Month in Waltham, Elevates the Somerville Brand
The Somerville-based Alpine Restaurant Group is making its first foray into the suburbs on Monday, November 23 with a high-end concept called Osteria Posto. Opening at the new CityPoint development in Waltham, the Italian steakhouse represents the “mature ascent” of chef/owner Joe Cassinelli’s Posto.
Like its Davis Square sibling, Osteria Posto will feature seasonally-inspired classics, but don’t expect Neapolitan-style pizza at the new restaurant—at least to start. Veteran chef Richard Fathman, most recently of Les Zygomates and Bel Ari, is on board as executive chef, and pizza isn’t part of the new concept, according to a representative for the restaurant group. Fathman’s lunch menu will be comprised of simple salads—come spring, a raised garden designed by Green City Growers will produce some ingredients—sandwiches, shareable snacks, homemade pastas, and entrées, and at night, expect more charcuterie, cheeses, crudo, and heartier fish and game plates.
Composed entrées will include tagliatelle with wild boar sugo, ciabatta crumbs, sage, and Parmesan; beef short rib with spiced red kuri squash, Vidalia onion, and Barolo; bistecca Fiorentina (Italian-style T-bone steak) with roasted bone marrow and carbonara sauce; Tuscan seafood stew with spicy tomato broth, olives, chile and ciabatta; and salmon with red beet risotto, preserved lemon, pickled beet, frissee, and vincotto. See the full opening menu below.
Osteria Posto is aimed at the corporate crowds situated around Waltham’s technology hub off Route 128. The LEED-certified, 7,000-square foot restaurant will seat 300, including 22 at the full bar, a three-season patio, and private dining space with audio/visual capabilities. Lunch debuts on December 14.
Cassinelli targeted the Waltham location more than a year ago, introducing the Posto brand there with the roving Posto Mobile Pizza truck. Beyond the daytime customer base, Osteria Posto is also for suburban families to experience sophisticated dining without having to head into Boston, Casinelli said. “There is a growing trend of people that are looking for the quality and atmosphere of Boston-style restaurants, without having to trek into the city,” he said via a press release. “We’re excited to bring something new, high-end, and exciting to an area that’s been craving it for so long.”
In Somerville, the Alpine Restaurant Group’s other restaurants are the Painted Burro and Rosebud American Kitchen. The new restaurant opens daily at 5 p.m.
