Five Things Jared Sadoian Loves
We’re asking Best of Boston winners to divulge their favorite places in Boston. Below, Jared Sadoian, bar manager of the Hawthorne, shares his picks.
“Call me biased (I spent the better part of four years working for chef Tony Maws), but Craigie on Main has the best food in the city. I started going to Craigie long before entering the industry, as it was on my walk home from MIT. I got to try so many different ingredients and preparations. It’s the reason why I’m no longer a picky eater.”
853 Main St., Cambridge, 617-497-5511, craigieonmain.com.
“I got to know bar manager Paul Manzelli when he was behind the stick at Craigie on Main. When he moved over to Bergamot I immediately fell in love with the place. Great food, unstuffy atmosphere, and lots of laughs. Owner Servio Garcia is a consummate professional and between him, Paul, and chef Keith Pooler’s food, it’s always on our short list when my wife and I are going out.”
118 Beacon St., Somerville, 617-576-7700, bergamotrestaurant.com.
“A menu that lets you build your own charcuterie and cheese board? Count me in. Their kitchen is putting out a lot of their meat selections in-house now, and the cheeses are always eclectic and delicious. Do yourself a favor when you go and order a pizza as well. You might think you’re over-ordering, but you’re merely just covering lunch the next day as well.”
130 Dartmouth St., Boston, 617-536-6200, thesaltypig.com.
“Every now and then at Craigie, Tony would run out to the Super 88 Market in Allston and get the staff all banh mi from Pho Viet’s. I’m not the first to say it might be the best banh mi in Boston, but for very little money you can’t beat the salty, sweet, spicy sandwich from heaven.”
1095 Commonwealth Ave., Allston, 617-562-8828.
“I knew about No. 9 long before I ventured across the river to make my first visit. That’s when I started kicking myself. Don’t really know how best to put it, the food is always delicious, the hospitality far above all expectations, the cheese selection always so baller, I could go on and on. Oh, also, hey, Ryan Lotz, your bar team is top-notch! Thanks!”
