Legal Sea Foods Is Luring Kevin Durant to Boston with the Promise of Free Crab Legs
Happy free agency season, NBA fans. Celtics supporters know the team needs to bolster its roster with a big-time player this offseason, and fans are doing their part to encourage Oklahoma City Thunder star and new free agent Kevin Durant to come to Boston.
To wit: Legal Sea Foods president and CEO Roger Berkowitz has promised Durant free crab legs every time he visits Legal in Copley Place, Kendall Square, Chestnut Hill, Framingham, and a few others. The deal stands at any Legal Sea Foods that has king crab legs on the menu.
“Whether we serve them to him steamed or braised, this is our civic responsibility,” Berkowitz says in a press release.
The bait should appeal to the Maryland-bred forward.
“In the summertime, we’d have four or five crab feasts,” Durant said in a promo video for the KD VI Maryland Blue Crab sneaker, which he created for Nike in 2013. “Where I come from, crab is a big deal.”
Never mind that Legal is offering king crab legs, not the regional specialty of Durant’s youth, he’ll likely still appreciate it. KD’s, the star forward’s branded restaurant in Oklahoma City, doesn’t even offer crab legs on its regular menu, just crab dip with lump crab. And Kevin—can we call you Kevin?—you’ll love Boston! Isaiah Thomas certainly does. Listen to Isaiah, Kevin.
“Seventeen World Championships and endless king crab legs?” Berkowitz says. “We think it’s time KD takes a closer look at Boston as his next home.”
