Don’t take candy from strangers, but definitely take hot dogs from big green monsters.
Wally, the kindly Green Monster, is teaming up with New England company Kayem to share franks with hungry lunch crowds in Boston this week. The annual celebration of National Hot Dog Day—observed on July 14 this year—hits the streets in the Financial District today, and in Back Bay tomorrow. Keep an eye out for Wally, along with pedicab operators decked out in hot dog suits, between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. both days (or until the hot dogs are gone).
Kayem, based in Chelsea, is the maker of the Fenway Frank and is the official sausage purveyor of several pro sports teams, including the Red Sox. The company has 5,000 individually wrapped hot dogs to distribute each day of this week’s #Thanks4Franks promotion. Before you toss the paper, take a look to see if your sausage wrapper is a one of a select few stamped with a voucher for summer prizes, including Kayem products and Red Sox tickets. Also: Watch out for fuzzy green fur on your frank, just to be safe.
Today, Wally will be at 100 Summer St. at 11 a.m.
