Manoa Poke, Parlor Ice Cream, and More at Lamplighter Brewing This Week

Manoa, opening soon near Porter Square, is popping up at Cambridge's new taproom.

With a full espresso menu, nitro iced coffee, and Union Square Donuts doughies by day, and unique beers, addictive ranch pretzels and spicy peanuts on the bar by evening, Lamplighter Brewing Co. and Longfellows Coffee’s joint taproom is already one of the coolest new hangouts in Cambridge. But this week, to celebrate the official grand opening, there are even more reasons to check out the new Broadway spot: Hawaiian poke, and handmade ice cream.

Manoa Poke Shop is opening later this year just outside Porter Square in Somerville, but you can try its Hawaiian-style fare at Lamplighter on Thursday, November 17. Owner Josiah Bonsey, who moved to Massachusetts from Hawaii at age 10, is sourcing Atlantic tuna and other sustainably sourced seafood to create a menu of five types of poke (cubed, marinated, raw seafood, for the uninitiated), as well as mochiko fried chicken with papaya salad, kalua pig with chorizo slaw, and more, he told the Improper Bostonian.

Last week, Manoa popped up at Naco Taco with toasted sesame and shoyu-marinated tuna poke tacos in a crispy wonton shell, shrimp kelaguen (similar to a ceviche), and more. For the Lamplighter pop-up, Manoa will share the full menu tomorrow, but expect classic ahi tuna pokes, tofu-based vegetarian poke, and slow-roasted kalua pig, Manoa manager James Acer says.

“Fun fact for today: beer pairs *excellently* with poke,” the team shared on Facebook.

On Friday, Jacqueline Dole is scooping Lamplighter beer-inspired flavors of her handmade Parlor Ice Cream. She’s recently made toasted milk ice cream to pair with Narragansett’s Autocrat Coffee Milk Stout, and passion fruit ice cream with a coconut caramel shell for a Kaki Lima pop-up, so ice cream fans can expect a creative take on Lamplighter’s opening draft list. With beers like the citrusy, sour gose Metric Systems, and chamomile honey wheat ale Group Theory, Dole has a lot to work with.

To round out grand opening week, Lamplighter is hosting a cheese pairing tonight, brunch with Longfellows’s Belgian-style waffles and coffee and beer flights on Sunday, and more. Check out the full schedule for times and other deatils online.
