Boston Restaurant Industry Parties for Keytar Bear
Shortly after Keytar Bear was the target of a senseless attack in June, Matt Marini decided to do something about it. On Monday, July 10, he’s here with an opportunity to support Boston’s beloved busker with beer and sweet treats.
“Let’s get Keytar Bear some new gear,” Marini, bar manager at Troquet on South, posted on June 19. “Anyone wanna help organize a benefit? A beer sponsor? Beers and Bears.”
Marini is founder of hospitality events group Pineapple Crossing, and an alum of spots including Hojoko. So, his Facebook post reached many in the industry. He signed on Lord Hobo Brewing, and pastry chefs Jacqueline Dole (the Parlor Ice Cream Co.) and Kate Holowchik (the Townshend). Marini also sent a message to the We Love Keytar Bear Facebook page, and has personally invited the masked musician, he says.
Troquet on South is breaking out the raclette warmer on the bar, and there will be ample Teddy Grahams to share. Lord Hobo Boom Sauce is flowing for $4, Parlor is spinning seasonal Blue-Beary Crisp ice cream, and Holowchik is making bear claws, and boozy gummy bears. A portion of the sales that night will go directly to Keytar Bear, per the event description.
“How many times has Keytar been there for you? Too many times!” Marini writes on the event page. “After a long shift, a delayed commute, a brutal storm, or everything wrapped into one REALLY BAD DAY—the Bear is there. It’s about time we raise our glass and show some support for our furry friend.”
The Boston community has rallied to raise more than $10,000 for Keytar Bear already this summer, via GoFundMe.
Care for the Bear—A Keytar Bear Lovefest, Monday, July 10, 8 p.m.-midnight, Troquet on South, 107 South St., Boston, 617-695-9463, troquetboston.com, Facebook event.
