The Boston Public Market Has a New Popover Bakery

The Melrose-based Popover Lady specializes in rustic, New England-style pastries.

The Popover Lady is now open at the Boston Public Market

Amidst the seasonal pop-up stalls at the Boston Public Market is a brand-new vendor focused on popovers. The Popover Lady debuted a full-time stall near the food hall’s central seating area last week, offering sweet and savory varieties of the namesake orbs, plus scones, fruit pies, and more.

The Popover Lady, Naomi Cannistraci, was once herself a pop-up vendor at the BPM, but like fellow entrepreneur Jennifer Lee’s Allergen Friendly Bakery, she has earned a place among the market’s oft-changing 36 vendors. Cannistraci has developed the quintessential crisp, fluffy texture of Yorkshire pudding over several years as a pop-up bakeshop, offering popover flavors like Asiago cheese, toasted onion, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate drizzle. The Popover Lady is a frequent vendor at seasonal farmers markets including SoWa, Newburyport, and Melrose.

“People come up to me and share their memories of popovers with family, at a restaurant or vacation spot,” Cannistraci says on her business Facebook page. The baker shares that her first taste of these tall treats was a famous one—”I had my first popovers at Anthony’s Pier 4 in Boston!”

The Popover Lady, located next to complementary bakeries Finesse Pastries and Levand Bagelry, is open regular market hours, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sundays.
