First Look at Wegmans Natick’s New Tequila Bar, Blue Dalia

To do the week’s grocery shopping, or to crush some ceviche, mushroom sopes, and a margarita or two? The newest Boston-area Wegmans asks, why not both?

The beloved grocery chain opened its sixth New England location in Natick on Sunday, and this weekend it will be complete with a tequila bar called Blue Dalia.

The Mexican restaurant opens this Friday, May 4, with a contemporary menu designed by celebrity chef Roberto Santibañez, handmade tortillas and salsas, and the most respectable agave spirits list we’ve ever seen in a Metrowest supermarket.

Santibañez, originally from Mexico City, owns Fonda restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn. He has authored several award-winning cookbooks about his native cuisine, and serves on the Culinary Institute of America’s Latin Cuisines Advisory Council. At Blue Dalia, his title is culinary director. Geno Bahena is the Natick restaurant’s chef de cuisine.

The Blue Dalia menu is inspired by Santibañez’s hometown and family recipes, and it uses seasonal ingredients selected from the shelves of the grocery store downstairs. Check it out below. Massachusetts native Darren Eng is behind the craft cocktail program.

Chicago-based designer Mark Knauer envisioned the bold space, located on the second level of the two-floor Wegmans inside the Natick Mall. The dining room seats about 180, with 21 additional seats at the bar. Blue Dalia also has two private event rooms.

To start—just in time for Cinco de Mayo—the restaurant opens daily at 3 p.m., with a limited menu until 6 p.m. during the week, and until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Dinner ends at 11 p.m., and lunch and brunch will be added in the coming months.
