You Can Audition for MasterChef in Boston This Fall
Gordon Ramsay's Fox TV show is seeking amateur cooks to cast in its 10th season.
If you’ve spent this summer identifying vegetables at your local farm stand, practicing your knife skills, or otherwise perfecting your favorite recipes, here is an upcoming opportunity you won’t want to miss. MasterChef is hosting an open call for auditions in Boston next month.
The reality show competition, hosted by Gordon Ramsay with celebrity chef judges, is headed for its 10th season on Fox. MasterChef seeks to cast amateur cooks—people who have never worked as professional chefs, nor made the bulk of their income by cooking. The show challenges contestants on a range of culinary tasks, like technical skills tests, using “mystery” ingredients, head-to-head cook-offs, team restaurant takeovers, and more.
Last fall, a Newton musician and teacher represented Greater Boston in the season eight top 3. Jason Wang impressed Ramsay and the MasterChef judges with his careful plating skills and flavor development. Though he didn’t win the $250,000 grand prize, since the show Wang has taught several cooking courses at Cambridge Center for Adult Education, traveled to appear with fellow MasterChef alums, and more.
To audition this year, Fox asks interested home cooks to pre-register online, and answer a survey about personality and cooking style.
Each contender must bring a signature dish to the open casting call, and will be given just three minutes to plate it up for a judging panel. Keep it simple but special: Wang’s Vietnamese-inspired shaved salad with kohlrabi, matchstick carrots, poached shrimp, herbs, a funky dressing, and a black sesame cracker on the side showed off his mastery of different flavors and texture combinations.
What easy-to-serve dish of yours would impress Gordon Ramsay? Start thinking about it now. MasterChef is headed to Boston on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf, 296 State St., Boston, masterchefcasting.com.
