Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe Closing in June
If you heard a loud collective groan over the Twittersphere this morning, it was because of the sad news that Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe, an 87-year institution in the South End, will be shuttering its doors at the end of June. The Manjourides family made a statement via Twitter this morning:
We will be closing at the end of June. We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and customers for 87 years of great memories.

The 32-seat breakfast hotspot, known for breaking racial barriers during segregation, its long history of entertaining celebrities throughout its almost nine decade existence (Tom Brady, Julia Child, President Obama), and of course, its turkey hash, Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe will be sorely missed.
Stay tuned for further news on the iconic space and the future plans of the Manjourides family. Also, this might be a good time to pick up a copy of former employee George Aaron Cuddy’s, history of Charlie’s, Where Hash Rules, which was published in 2012.
