The patties are steamed with heated vapor and seared, and sandwiches are customized-to-order on an assembly line.

A new, fast-casual burger joint opens at 11 a.m. today in Mission Hill.

At Beta Burger, patties steamed in a controlled-vapor oven and seared, creating a uniformly pink and juicy burger every time, reported the Boston Globe. Gluten-free and vegetarian options aren’t available just yet, but the Angus beef or chicken patties will be assembled to order on a Chipotle-inspired line. Each sandwich can be customized with a variety of free cheeses, vegetables, and condiments, with a handful of “treat yo’self” toppings for an additional $1.50. Fries and chips can be sprinkled with “shake & spice,” in flavors like garlic Parmesan, salt and vinegar, sour cream and onion, and buffalo.

Beta Burger is the brainchild of Adrian Wong, who was inspired to “disrupt” the fast-food industry after earning a finance degree from Bentley University, then advising startup companies for Morgan Stanley. He took an hourly gig on the line at a local Chipotle to learn the basics of the industry, and quit his six-figure job in February to open Beta Burger, according to the Globe.

Eater Boston visited the two-floor, Tremont Street shop this week to check out the neon orange decor and open kitchen. To celebrate its first day in business, Beta Burger is giving away sunglasses to the first 50 guests in at 11 a.m. and at 4 p.m.
