Certified Meatball Co. Is Rolling Into South Boston This Summer
Boston Nightlife Ventures is pretty busy these days: In addition to the restaurant group’s existing concepts—two locations of Griddler’s Burgers & Dogs; Wink & Nod; and the Tap Trailhouse—it has several other projects in the works for 2016. The latest, called Certified Meatball Company, is officially headed for South Boston, the company shared last night.

Certified Meatball Company has been in the works since last spring, when BNV president Euz Azevedo hinted at a new concept headed for a Davis Square storefront. By August, the BNV-branded paper covering the Somerville windows had been removed, but Azevedo told Eater Boston the team was securing a new location. Now they have, and Certified Meatball Co. is slated for a summer 2016 debut.
The restaurant will offer globally-inspired meatballs, “born from nostalgic memories of top quality food and produce found in the local butcher shops of our youth.” Expect prices in the $10-$13 range, a rep says. Located next door to Lincoln Tavern, Certified Meatball Co. also aims to be a neighborhood hang. There will be an open kitchen, producing lunch and dinner daily, as well as weekend brunch. The bar will offer local, craft beers and small-batch wines on tap.
Before Certified Meatball Co. rolls out its first eatables, BNV’s portfolio could have two other new concepts. Southern Kin Cookhouse, currently under construction at Assembly Row, is coming this spring. BNV chief culinary office Bill Brodsky, former executive chef at the Palmetto Café in Charleston, S.C., is developing a lowcountry menu with items like deviled eggs; fritters; and herb and butter-basted steak over stewed okra, hominy, tomato, and smoked pork hocks for the Americana spot. It will also carry more than 100 American bourbons and whiskeys.
Chef Patrick Enage is currently in Southeast Asia doing research and development to expand his menu at Akinto, which will open next door to Wink & Nod this summer. Enage was the resident chef at Wink & Nod before Pelekasis took over in January. In addition to a venerable cocktail bar by BNV’s corporate beverage director Michael Boughton, Wink & Nod hosts up-and-coming chefs in its culinary incubator.
BNV’s website also teases an Italian restaurant, Little Owl Tavern, under development.
