UPDATE, August 1: Nosh & Grog Provisions is now open, Eater Boston reports.
PREVIOUSLY:
Earlier this month, the acclaimed Zebra’s Bistro & Wine Bar shuttered after 16 years in Medfield, with owner Craig Neubecker promising a contemporary, approachable concept to follow. That new restaurant will be Nosh & Grog Provisions, a casual, bar-friendly spot with a wide-ranging and accessible menu by chef Joshua Bottini.
“This menu and concept excites me,” Neubecker says. “It’s how I like to dine out with friends these days. Joshua’s menu is approachable and delicious with lots of options.”
Instead of three-course prix-fixe menus and white tablecloths on the tables at Zebra’s, Nosh & Grog will offer shareable plates in a more stylish, rustic-industrial setting.
That includes dishes like an 8-ounce, prime sirloin steak with a peppercorn marinade, spiced fried chicken and corn bread, “food truck tacos” with house-smoked chicken, “beer rocked shrimp” with avocado, and guacamolito with corn tortillas. One of the chef’s early favorites is the “stunning and substantial” vegetable garden plate with Narragansett Creamery ricotta.
Bottini joins the team after a stint at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in Las Vegas. He was also formerly executive chef at Davio’s Chestnut Hill, and has cooked with the Franklin Group (Franklin Cafe, Citizen Public House) and other New England restaurants. At Nosh & Grog, he plans to support passionate farmers and artisans.
“It’s really that simple. When I find growers and producers creating extraordinary food, I want to showcase them on the plate,” he says.
The new restaurant will also have an updated craft cocktail program, including a daily rum drink—the namesake grog. There will be local craft beers, and an easy-to-understand wine list with 24 by-the-glass options.
Beyond the revamped cuisine and beverage programs, the team is updating the interior with a more contemporary, rustic-industrial vibe. A new, U-shaped bar is surrounded by reclaimed wood furniture, and Neubecker himself designed the restaurant’s new lighting fixtures. Zebra’s patio isn’t going anywhere—at Nosh & Grog, the intimate outdoor space has new weathered copper-topped tables, mahogany planters, and black shade umbrellas.
Renovations are well underway, and the team plans to reopen within the next two weeks.
Nosh & Grog Provisions will serve dinner nightly from 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m. (9 p.m. on Sundays).
