The Copenhagen Beer and Music Festival Returns to Boston in September

An acclaimed European beer festival chose Boston for its first U.S. event last year, and they apparently had a good time. The Copenhagen Beer and Music Celebration is officially coming back to City Hall Plaza September 22 and 23.

Co-produced by Mikkeller and Boston Calling Events (formerly Crash Line Productions), this year’s installment will bring more than 45 international and domestic breweries to the concrete expanse, including Sweden’s Stigbergets, and Omnipollo; Brooklyn darling Other Half, 3 Floyds Brewing Co. from Munster, Indiana; Jester King, out of Austin; local favorites Night Shift, Trillium, and more. This year, all tickets will include unlimited sampling.

The breweries aim to bring unique and sought-after drafts to this festival—last year, Omnipollo had two slushy machines churning flavorful soft serve to top their brews. Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Danish brewery Mikkeller—which had an exclusive beer garden at Boston Calling this year, too—started the Copenhagen Beer Celebration in his hometown five years ago.

“While working on the plans for [the 2016] festival, we realized we had the ability to do a crossover festival with music and beer—two of the things I love the most—and in such an awesome venue such as Boston,” Bjergsø said last year.

The musical talent this year includes Boston’s own Tigerman Woah, These Wild Plains, psychedelic country singer Hayley Thompson-King, and Danish surf rockers the Tremolo Beer Gut. More artists, and the weekend performance schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks, and the festival will also share the lineup of food vendors.

Tickets go on sale today at noon. There will be three sessions, one on Friday night, and two on Saturday. Check out the full lineup of participating breweries below.
