“We worked with the clients to choose a backsplash material that would balance the modern and traditional aspects of the renovation,” says Day. “Using tile, a traditional backsplash choice, but installing it in a larger size and a stacked pattern keeps it feeling fresh. The textured finish adds a hint of shine and reflects light around the room.”

“Unafraid of color, the clients wanted the kitchen’s lounge area to be a causal, whimsical place for the family to gather,” he says. “The hide area rug is durable—important in a kitchen location—and adds color and texture.”
