Trailblazers: Joyce Hampers
When Joyce Hampers opened Giuliano, the Spa for Beauty & Wellness in 1994, she was a pioneer in the day-spa industry. Now rebranded as G2O Spa + Salon, Hampers just celebrated G2O’s 30th anniversary in their 17,000-square-foot urban day spa in the heart of Back Bay. A tax lawyer by profession, Hampers was recruited as the assistant secretary of commerce under President George H.W. Bush, stimulating economic growth by encouraging policies that helped small businesses thrive. Now a small business owner herself, Hampers is inspired by her husband, children, and late friend Noel DiCaprio, a salon owner who offered sage council.
“Since the inception of G2O, we’ve always prided ourselves in being at the cutting edge of the spa and salon industry,” Hampers says. “When we opened in 1994, we introduced Boston to the idea of a day spa. Thanks to the sophisticated and discerning tastes of Bostonians, the city naturally embraced the concept and G2O was off and running!”
