Maids Help Cancer Patients Heal While Boston Researchers Seek Cures
World class academic institutions and medical facilities are some reasons we’re proud to call Boston home. And since we admire researchers leading efforts to end cancer, we also respect one local businesses’ mission – which proves you don’t need to be a scientist to help women afflicted with the disease here in our own backyard.
Ten-time Best of Boston winners and professional house cleaners, The Maids have been offering Boston-area ladies with cancer free house cleanings since 2008 to alleviate them of stresses that come with their courageous fights.
We wanted to learn more about their cause and figure out how we could help.
First, let’s start fresh and learn more about The Maids:
Founded in 1979, The Maids are a leading residential cleaning company with more than 140 franchisees serving over 90 major U.S. cities. Here in Boston they’ve served all of Eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Southern New Hampshire for over 30 years.
And while the mission of The Maids is to make it easier for any client – regardless of their health – to get out and enjoy life rather than toil with dingy floors, dirty sinks and mold-riddled showers, the local Massachusetts team is making a difference in our community thanks to their involvement in a foundation called Cleaning For A Reason.
How does Cleaning For A Reason help local women fighting cancer?
Cleaning For A Reason is a generous non-profit that’s recruited over 1,200 maid services nationwide to donate free housecleaning services to women who are undergoing all forms of cancer treatment. Since the foundation’s start in 2006 hundreds have volunteered their time to clean for over 20,500 women across the continent – a value of over $5,600,000 executed free of charge!
The non-profit started after the founder’s realization that tidying one’s home is already a chore – but when facing an exhausting period of cancer treatments scrubbing tubs and sinks can be an extremely tedious, daily obstacle that falls by the wayside.
“I can put dishes in the dishwasher, but I can’t even vacuum. The fatigue is just too much.” said local cancer patient and client of The Maids, Janet Berube. She added, “When you get [a cancer] diagnosis your life isn’t normal anymore, it just changes.”
The Maids understand this notion so made it their mission to serve people like Janet and bring some normalcy – in the form of an immaculate home – to those with larger issues on their minds, all thanks to Cleaning For A Reason.
What do the cleanings entail once The Maids show up?
Each team member is trained in The Maids’ official, proprietary 22-step home cleaning system, guaranteeing squeaky clean outcomes in no time for an in-and-out, totally non-intrusive session.
The heart of their cleaning methodology lies within a 22-Step Healthy Touch® Deep Cleaning System. The Maids utilize eco-friendly products to clean nooks and crannies like the ones found under beds, atop shelves, and behind toilets. Plus, they sport backpack vacuums equipped with a HEPA filtration, clearing up to 99 percent of bacteria and allergens like pet dander from carpets and furniture for easier breathing.
The Maids take their work seriously and understand client needs and feelings. They act efficiently and are friendly and courteously – treating every customer fairly and with respect while a guest within their home.
How can we all help The Maids trash cancer?
Individuals can donate and organizations can become official sponsors today!
Local participation in the program is necessary to build a community of trust cancer patients in need can rely on. After all, we might think of cleaning as a chore, but we take for granted the fact that we can vacuum, scrub, mop and easily take out the trash when we need to. But unfortunately for too many of our neighbors cleaning isn’t just mundane – it’s downright exhausting as an unfortunate side effect of cancer.
Your support will allow charitable organizations like The Maids to continue providing free house cleanings to women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Plus, all gifts are tax deductible – just a small incentive to do something huge that will make you feel great!
What are you waiting for? Leave cancer in the dust pan!
Join The Maids in the fight against cancer and donate today to support Cleaning For A Reason to positively impact the lives of neighbors in need!
