Q: What were your inspirations for this project, and how did they align with the homeowner’s goals?

The owners wanted to create a beautiful home for use as a primary residence that would accommodate visiting family members, capture the surrounding natural light, and be exceptionally energy efficient. The owners wanted to take advantage of their limited outdoor space, so in order to do that we created a sizable deck off of the kitchen for outdoor dining overlooking a lush zen-like garden with natural elements, and a green roof/roof garden atop their garage with raised planters and a built-in watering system. This high-performance home delivers modern, low-carbon living, outdoor comforts, and close proximity to urban amenities, all designed to fit seamlessly into the local vernacular of the surrounding neighborhood.

Q: Why do you love this project?

We love this project because it involved working with a great architect to make a beautiful, functional space for a really nice family. Designed to fit within a traditional neighborhood, the design is anything but, working perfectly for a modern family. The house is open, bright, and completely energy efficient, which makes it lovely to be in.
