Theory Wellness Opens Boston’s First Employee-Owned Dispensary and World’s First Beverage Dispensary in Medford

The first employee-owned cannabis company in MA opened the doors of its newest location on Sunday, January 21st. The location includes a full-service dispensary and the world’s first cannabis beverage outlet.

Theory Wellness, a pioneer in the Massachusetts cannabis industry, opened its flagship dispensary in Medford along with the world’s first-ever beverage dispensary this past week. The dispensaries are located just minutes from downtown Boston at 162 Mystic Avenue, minutes off I-93, and offer the convenience of more than 60 parking spaces.

The new store opening came just weeks after the company announced that it had transitioned 100% ownership to its staff, making Theory the first employee-owned cannabis company in the Commonwealth and the largest in the country.

That’s not the only first; Theory also opened the world’s only cannabis beverage outlet named after their well-established, in-house drink brand Hi5 in the same building. As a rapidly growing category in cannabis, this beverage outlet provides the largest selection of cannabis beverages at wholesale prices. They’ve brought on some of the best brands in the market, featuring trusted partners like CannLevia, and Good Feels at the most affordable prices in the state.

“We had a truly exciting end to the year, both with our transition to becoming employee-owned and now with the opening of our flagship store and beverage outlet in Medford,” shared Brandon Pollock, co-founder and CEO. “It’s been a rewarding journey, and our team has done an incredible job getting us here.”

Beyond the cannabis offerings, there is a cultural impact, too. Theory donated nearly 10,000 square feet of space adjacent to its dispensary for the Arts Collaborative Medford. This community-based non-profit had been seeking a space for almost a decade before Theory offered to donate part of its building and construct a brand-new arts center. “We are excited to be able to offer this space and support the local artist community,” says Nick Friedman, Theory’s co-founder and CSO.

The Medford dispensary is the final retail license for the company in Massachusetts, following other locations in Great BarringtonChicopee, and Bridgewater. The Theory dispensary is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays. The Hi5 Beverage Dispensary is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Both locations will offer both in-store shopping and advanced pre-orders on their website.
