Listening lounges—also known as sound bars, hifi bars, etc.—have a focus on high-fidelity sound: carefully designed acoustics, audiophile-friendly sound systems, expertly curated playlists. The trend dates back to 1950s Japan and has taken off around the world in recent years, becoming particularly prevalent in Boston in 2024. This page serves as a growing archive of Boston magazine coverage of this genre of venues in the Greater Boston area, including stories on Spy Bar, Desnuda Cocina and Bar, Temple Records, and Headroom Hi-Fi Lounge at Trillium.
